Virtual Tragedy - Updated

Yesterday, they were all fine. Healthy, working, having babies, a growing population of about 25. This morning when I checked on them, all of the adults were dead, leaving 11 orphaned children aged between two and four. All of the food was already gone. Eight of the 11 children are very weak and were near death when I found them. They are too young to harvest crops or fish. All they can do is look for mushrooms to keep them alive.

I can't imagine what came in the night that caused such a tragedy. The poor babies. They still go to school and I hope they will grow up and be able to bury their parents.

Update: Mushrooms are scarce and seven more have died. Only four children are left now, aged 9 to 11. Nothing is left of the adults to bury. One little girl named Shadow is very weak and probably will not survive. It will be up to Penny and the two boys to keep the tribe going if they make it to adulthood.

Update: The four remaining children all made it to adulthood: Rudy, Tommy, Penny, and even Shadow, who was near death for so long. A toddler showed up in a barrel awhile back. He was 4 at the time and now he's 10! Shadow and Penny are both new mothers. Tommy is a doctor and Rudy is a farmer. Hopefully, the little tribe will survive after such a difficult struggle.

Update Again: The tribe is growing and thriving. The Golden Child (named ShadowSon)has been born to the oldest of the villagers, Shadow. She's the one who was so weak as a child and I didn't think she would survive. Here's a picture of the tribe. The original four surviving children are at the top, plus Lost Boy who showed up in a barrel. The rest are arranged in age with the smallest children at the bottom. ShadowSon is standing next to his mother.

All the Kids Are Six

I have a Virtual Villagers 1 tribe that just runs on its own. I haven't checked on it for at least a couple of weeks until tonight. They are doing just fine. Heh. the population is still maxed out at 90, but the funniest thing was the children. Aside from the Golden Child, there were 27 children and ALL of them are six years old. My best guess is that a crop of elders died at about the same time, then the Golden Child had a party that turned into a love fest. The result was 27 children born at the same time. That cracks me up so much.

Here's a picture of all of them attending school.

Please Please Please Don't Change the Computer Clock

I see quite a few people who change their computer clock in an attempt to increase their food or tech points. I always advise against it, but it still happens. It's a really really bad idea. Most of the time, it messes up the game. Villagers die, tech points disappear, etc. That's all bad enough, but the thing that worries me even more is how changing the clock can mess up lots of other computer functions.

Think about all the things that rely on the computer clock. All documents are date and time stamped. System recovery is marked with dates and times. Calendar and scheduled events. Pretty much everything on the computer uses the clock in one way or another.

On top of all of that, you're missing out on the game itself when you cheat your way to more food or tech points. What's the point of playing a strategy and "real time" game if you're just going to change the clock to to "beat" the game?

So, please please please... don't change the computer clock when playing Virtual Villagers.

Virtual Villagers 3 - Chief Teaching Children

Here is a screen shot of the Chief teaching the children (note that they all have black hair, heh). The white sparkle on the child's head is an indicator that they have gotten experience points from the teaching (red arrow).

Virtual Villagers 3 - Honoring the Dead

I've only had this island event twice, but it's pretty impressive when the tribe is large.

Virtual Villagers 3 - Lecturing Children

Here's the chief lecturing all the black-haired children. Heh.

Virtual Villagers 3 - Blessings Day Celebration

This is a screen shot of my black-haired tribe having their Blessings Day Celebration. It's not often that all the village comes together like that, so I wanted to get a shot of it. I'm nearly at the max village capacity.

Virtual Villagers 3 - Lotus Screenshot

Some folks are having trouble finding the Lotus plant, so here's a screenshot of it:

VV3 - Black Haired Villagers

I was so smitten with the cute black haired villagers in one of my games that I tried to breed them. Hahaha! I ended up with quite a few midnight-haired cuties.

Starting This Blog

I found a fun site called Jay Is Games where folks post in a forum about the Virtual Villagers games. I've posted some stuff in the comments section and thought it would be fun to start my own blog to post pictures and anything else Villager related. I don't want to take up too much space on the host's blog. I appreciate that they let me comment and answer questions. If anyone makes their way here to my own blog... WELCOME!!!
